The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiology of infections over a six-year period at Düzce University Hospital, Turkey.
The incidence, clinical characteristics, antimicrobial susceptibility and outcomes of nosocomial infections during this period were retrospectively analyzed.
During the study period, 67 samples obtained from 61 patients were identified. A before and after study design without control was carried out using a self-administered questionnaire and key informant interviews. Data was also collected from client record cards. An educational intervention was carried out using pamphlets containing summarized information on the guideline. Data analysis was carried out using IBM-SPSS version 20.
Results showed that 54.5% of the respondents were males and 76% were medical doctors. Baseline knowledge level of respondents was high with 97% of respondents having good knowledge with a mean score of 3.9. This increased to 4.1 out of 5 post-intervention. All respondents had good practice of the guidelines before and after intervention with a mean score of 4.5 out of 5. Client records also showed good practice. Barriers to guideline implementation include poor knowledge, inadequate training, guideline unavailability, poor functioning of the laboratory equipment, poor funding.

This study assessed the knowledge, attitudes and prevention practices regarding HIV transmission among barbers in the Ho Municipality, Ghana. A cross-sectional design was employed in Ho Municipality, and data were collected from 121 participants and analysed using Stata version 13.0 at the significance level of 0.05. Knowledge was low (63.6%) and was associated with attitude [COR=4.37 (95% CI 1.98-9.62); p less then 0.001] and with level of education [COR=4.92 (95% CI 1.70-14.21); p=0.003]. Attitude was inadequate (58.7%) and was associated with level of education [COR=3.47 (95% CI 1.18-10.14); p=0.023]. Poor prevention practice was high (87.6%) and was associated with work experience [COR=20.72 (95% CI 3.86-111.05); p less then 0.001] and location of operation [COR=4.92 (95% CI 1.60-15.14); p=0.006]. Programmes aimed at improving knowledge, attitudes and practices should focus on Barbers in urban communities, those without any formal education, and those with less than five years work experience.
